Snapper Model/Serial number and year idntification discussion in the Garden Tractors forum at Yesterday's Tractors. Find the engine code on the plate. The engine code is a 12-digit number. The first two digits denote the year that your mower was manufactured. For example, if the first two digits of the engine code are '98,' your mower was manufactured in 1998, and '04' would indicate a 2004 Snapper mower.

The easiest way to find this number is to look in the owner's manual that came with your product. But we understand that most people lost that at some point. So you'll need to search for a rating sticker (identification tag) that’s posted somewhere on your Snapper product. If you've got a Snapper riding mower, you'll find this sticker posted on the frame of your unit. The sticker will have several barcodes and is usually white/silver. Most other Snapper models will also place the identification sticker on the frame, on the top of the unit, on the handle-area, or even possibly engraved into the valve cover.
